Exploring Suffering and Spiritual Revelation: A Sneak Peek into My New Book

Suffering is experiencing physical, mental, or emotional pain, distress, or misery. Even as Christians, this word makes us cringe. We do not want to go through the difficulties in life that might cause us grief and anguish. And it often becomes a challenge to help others who are going through these things. However, looking at it through a spiritual lens allows us to view something beautiful in these seasons. And then we can help those who are struggling to develop a greater revelation by being:
Affirming. Let them know that they are seen and heard. Reassure them that suffering is a normal part of this life and so are all of the emotions that come along with difficulties. God hears them and understands their pain.
Loving. Sit with them. Wrap your arms around them. You don't have to fix them, just be there for them. Explain that they are never alone in this suffering and it is a great opportunity to lean into God, not pull away into isolation. God truly gives us people to demonstrate His love to us.
Hopeful. Romans 5: 3-4 says, "And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance character; and character, hope." Help them to understand that they can get to a place of hope by allowing God to develop things through this suffering.
Most importantly, the grace of God can be found. Through each test or trial, we can all seek to trust God more and possibly develop a mighty purpose for His kingdom through the pain!
