Living In That "In Between" Land

Have you ever been in that "in between" space. You know...the one that makes you anxious or weary? It could be a deep valley that you are walking through. Every step is a struggle and it feels extremely lonely. Oh, you know that eventually you will come to the other side. But, how long, God? In Psalm 13:1 David wrote: "How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?"

Or maybe this space makes you anxious as you anticipate that next wave. The water is calm right now, but you know that there is a wave with your name written all over it. So you sit there and catch your breath. Will it carry me or knock me over? This is how grief feels. In Job 30:27, he said, "The churning inside me never stops; days of suffering confront me."

Are you between ministries? You have been given a dream or a vision, but here your are: stuck between who you once were and seeking that open door to move forward into who God has called you to be. We see this many times in the Word of God:

  • Abraham waited 25 years for his promised child.

  • Joseph endured 13 years of slavery before his dream came to pass.

  • David was anointed, but he did not take the throne for 15-20 years.

In all of these cases, this land causes similar feelings. It is the unknown. It is about waiting. It is a season of learning to trust God. What I have been thinking about is this: What exactly should we be learning from each "in between" land.

More to come on this!

Ocean Week

Next week, I am doing an entire week of fun posts on my Steady Course Ministries Facebook page. At the end of the week, I will be giving away my latest book Finding Grace: A Passage of Faith Through the Waters of Suffering.

Every analogy that God has given me about my suffering has been about that the ocean. In my book, I share my journey through suffering with a chronic nerve pain condition and all of the things that God has shown me.

Check it out! And you can find both books on Amazon.
