Mark 2:1-5 says, "A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
When the sick cannot get to Jesus, friends get the sick to Jesus! I was reading in Mark chapter 2 and thinking about how many of our friends need a touch from the Lord. We must be willing to find a way to help people get to Jesus. This is not easy, but if it will be done, we must have a heart and mind that is prepared for the task! This takes work:
This means carrying them up. We need to get them to the place where His presence fills the house!
This means tearing off the roof. It takes intercessory prayer to remove any obstacle that is in the way!
This means that we must lower them down. Let's lead them into the presence of the Healer!
This means working, toiling, sweating.!
It takes using spiritual muscles.!
It takes crying, praying, fasting...
What would you do to get the sick to Jesus?
We say that we would be willing to put in the work. Of course we would ! This is who we are as Christians. But when it comes to the press, would we really do the work? Or would we leave the lame in their attempt to get through by crawling and fighting the crowds? Remember the woman with the issue of blood who had to do this? Where were her friends? What about the man who attempted to get to the troubled water? He tried to get there. Where were the friends to help him get there?
Don't set them up for failure. Do the work they cannot do! Get them to the One who can touch their lives like no other! What happens when we do this? Jesus saw their faith...the faith if the ones who lowered the man...and He performed a great miracle that day! The lame stood up and walked out! He was not left powerless, but the One with ALL power gave him the strength to be able to walk right out...through the door! And please notice this: not because of his faith, but because of the faith of his friends!

As a mum to four guys, I like to picture these four good friends as four brothers who have been "tearing the roof off" together all their lives!
