When God Changes Your Plans: What He Wants You To Know, Remember, and Do

Proverbs 19:21 says,
"Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails"
Have you ever made plans in your ministry only to realize that God is going to change them?
What? Why?
I have 2 monthly calendars that I look at, not to mention my phone calendar. And I try to keep on top of things! Still, things change! I have many projects on the back burner. Maybe I will get to them. Maybe not. Recently, one door shut. I will be honest, my feelings were a bit crushed. Then God opened a door that I never even realized was there. Hallelujah!
Shifting gears is hard.
It can seem frustrating.
It can be confusing.
It can happen out of nowhere.
What does God want us to know, remember, and do when this happens?
Know - It Is Still Good To Plan
Try to ease your frustration. Proverbs 19:21 does not mean we should simply stop planning altogether. The process of making those plans is a great ability to learn and exercise. It is part of your Christian life to set goals for your walk with God and for your life.
However, God wants you to know who He is and who you are in Him. Consider that you are a moving piece in His story, not yours. Many people talk about the story of their life. But this is truly God's story to be lived out by you!
Remember - His Plans Are Better
What He is doing right now might not make sense. Maybe it will never seem right. Isaiah 55:8-9 says:
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
Anytime He changes your life and ministry plans it is for the good of His purpose. In times like this, cling to His truths. For instance, Romans 8:28 says,
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
God sees what we cannot see. Allow Him to take control.
"Consider that you are a moving piece in His story, not yours." – Pastor Erin
Do - Be Instant
Be prepared to put a hold on your plans or change direction. 2 Timothy 4:2 tells us to "be instant in season, out of season." Go when He says "Go," move when He says, "Move," And change your plans when He gives a new direction.
We are to be obedient. He is always trustworthy and faithful.
