5 Essentials For A Successful Online Summit

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

Christian speakers, summit

Steady Course Ministries' very first Spring Summit has been completed! I give all glory and honor to God for His inspiration and direction for this event. There were 11 speakers (including me) from different religious backgrounds. The theme of the Summit was "Building A House." Here are a couple of viewer comments about this endeavor:

- "Thank you!!! I appreciate your ministry and vision for your ministries. I listened to several speakers, singers, prayers, and poems. So inspiring!"

- "Thank you, Erin Canter, for hosting this virtual summit. Day 1 was great and I can't wait for tomorrow's speakers!"

- "Thank you everybody for your time for this summit and also letting God use you all to speak to everyone."

- "I have enjoyed the messages."

There were so many more comments on the summit and on each amazing speaker. I learned a lot through this process and I would like to share. Below are 5 Essentials For A Successful Online Summit:

Essential #1 - Great Speakers

I pray and fast at the beginning of each year. It was through this fast in January that God began flooding my heart with inspiration. I allowed Him to provide the topic and the work started immediately. I chose a date and listed what needed done along the way. When I looked for subtopics, I did some searching online for phrases related to "Building A House." Once I had compiled the list of subtopics, it was easy to fill in the speakers, based upon their experience or expertise. I utilized people who had spoken at one point or another in my online groups. You can ask ministers and seasoned saints of God, even specialists in certain fields depending upon your theme. Below is a sample letter that I sent to each speaker.

Essential #2 - Location, Location, Location

Then I had to choose a location for this event. I am most familiar with Facebook so that is what I chose. I see social media as a huge, open and often untapped field. You have no idea how many people can be reached! So I created a separate page and waited until the event was closer to start inviting people. I have also seen websites for summits. I'm not sure if YouTube would be a good platform. Have you had a chance to check out the 2023 Spring Summit? Here is the link:

Essential #3 - Technology

All messages were going to be prerecorded so I needed to have a holding space for them. I chose my personal computer. I created a shared drive that they could upload the videos into and I downloaded them. I'm sure you already know that technology is not always reliable. I had difficulty both days with uploading the videos from my computer to Facebook. I do not believe that the problem was on my end. For this reason, I will change a few things next year. It is also important to watch the videos to make sure that they work.

Essential #4 - Add Some Flare

To make it fun, add a few things. Along with the addition of prayer, I incorporated music, poetry, and prizes. Music and poetry were also prerecorded. Prizes are a fun way to get the word out about the summit. To participate in my drawings, a person needed to share the event and comment under at least one speaker. I gave away t-shirts, books written by one of our speakers, and a wax warmer with wax. Enjoy the song performed by Tyler Gibson!

Essential #5 - Posts

Before the event, I created pictures with several speakers on it to post on social media. Then I created individual pictures for each speaker with a little bit about them. This was to created interest in the event and the amazing speakers that I had lined up. I created a schedule and tried to stick to it as closely as possible. At the end of each day, I had pulled 2 quotes from each speaker to share. Watch the videos in advance to do this.

In Closing

I hope that you will go to Steady Course Ministries' 2023 Spring Summit and enjoy the speakers talk about "Building A House."
